October Monthly M-ship: Spooky m2 (or 1/2 step)

October's interval is the MINOR 2nd. Very fitting, since composers use this interval a lot in scary movie scores to create tension - think Jaws. Be sure to click on the links in your freebie interval doc attached to hear samples of this spooky interval!

Some reminders:

  1. INTERVALS are the Building Blocks of MUSIC.

  2. HALF-STEPS (or semi-tones) are the Building Blocks of INTERVALS.

  3. The QUALITY of an interval can be either Major, Minor, Perfect, Augmented, or Diminished.

  4. MAJOR or MINOR intervals are 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th.

  5. PERFECT, AUGMENTED, or DIMINISHTED intervals are Unison, 4th, 5th, and 8ve.

  6. A MINOR interval is ½ step smaller than a MAJOR interval (2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th).

  7. A DIMINISHED interval is ½ step smaller than a PERFECT interval (Unison, 4th, 5th, 8ve).

  8. An AUGMENTED interval is ½ step larger than a PERFECT interval (Unison, 4th, 5th, 8ve).

This month we celebrate the MINOR 2nd.
